after my baby is born

Young Peoples Project
The aim of the Young People’s Project is to offer support and a chance to look at what young parents want to do next. The project aims to offer a place where parents  can  meet  together  informally  and  also  access  training  if desired. Training  at  the project  has  included  GSCEs, BTECs, NVQs, first aid training, computers,  beauty,  art and  keep fit.  Also a group of parents take lessons in local schools and encourage other young people to think about the implications of being a teenage parent.

At the project  there is access to  Connexions PAs,  time to  book a careers appointment, or see a lone parent advisor. The Teenage Pregnancy Midwives run antenatal appointments for pregnant teenagers on Wednesdays from 1pm. There is also a drop-in session on Wednesday afternoons 1pm-3pm which is open to anyone and is a great opportunity to come and check out the project. You can bring a friend along for support if you want to.

On Friday afternoons 2pm–4.30pm there is a contraception clinic on site. If you have had your baby it is really important to think about what contraception you will use now. You can drop-in for a chat about contraception and what might be best  for  you.  Free  condoms  are  also  available  from  reception  and  the contraception support worker.

It’s not always easy for young parents to meet together but for many young parents it has been a good way to meet other people and for their babies to make their first friends as well. The project has an OFSTED registered Nursery for the babies to be safely cared for.

“I wanted my baby, I’d had an abortion before but not this time, me and his dad are still together, about a year and a half now, we’re happy.”

“My little boy means everything to me. I’m still tight with my baby’s mother too.”
