You are Pregnant: The Decision Process
Finding out that you are pregnant can produce lots of different
feelings from excitement, to disbelief and fear. You have three
choices:
- you can carry on with the pregnancy and keep your baby
- you can carry on with the pregnancy
and have your baby adopted
- you can have an abortion also known
as a termination of pregnancy
Choices and talking to someone
When you are thinking about your choices, it can be helpful to talk
through your thoughts and feelings in confidence with someone who
will listen and not judge you. These services are available for
your partner too. Whatever choice you make, it is a big decision.
Often a family member or friend can be helpful. Some young people
prefer to talk to someone that they are not related to:

It is always worth asking any organisation to explain to you what
their confidentiality policy is so that you can decide what
information you want to share with them. You can bring a friend,
your partner or family member with you.

Telling Your Parents
Telling your mum or dad or the person who looks after you that
you are pregnant is never easy. Parents are often upset and
angry at first. Most will usually be very supportive and help
you in any way they can once they have come to terms with the
situation. You could ask a trained counsellor for help with
this (see Counselling) or Brook have counsellors you can see.
